Terms of Use for BMS Pal

Effective Date: August 30, 2026

The Short Version: BMS Pal is a monitoring tool for hardware that is varied, quirky, and high-energy. Readings can be wrong, AI-generated reports can be wrong, and nothing in the app replaces your own judgment. You use the app — and act on what it shows — at your own risk.

1. Agreeing to These Terms

By downloading or using the BMS Pal app, or using this website and its connected services, you agree to these Terms of Use and to the acknowledgments in Sections 2–4. If you do not agree, do not use the app or the services.

2. What BMS Pal Is (and Is Not)

BMS Pal is a monitoring and configuration-reading tool: it displays what your battery hardware reports over Bluetooth. It is not a safety device, not a substitute for a properly configured battery management system, proper fusing, and sound wiring, and not a source of professional engineering, electrical, or safety advice.

3. Batteries and BMSs Are Varied — Acknowledgment

Battery management systems are varied and tricky: the same brand can ship many firmware variants, rebranded boards abound, and individual units can report values that are incomplete, miscalibrated, or simply wrong. BMS Pal can only relay what your hardware says. You acknowledge that readings shown in BMS Pal may be inaccurate, and that you will independently verify any reading before acting on it — especially before changing configuration, toggling FETs, or making decisions that affect safety, charging, or wiring.

4. AI-Generated Reports — Acknowledgment

The optional Sanity Check feature sends data you choose to share to a large-language-model provider and returns a written report (see the Privacy Policy for what is shared and how it is processed). AI systems make mistakes. You acknowledge that a Sanity Check report may be wrong, incomplete, or may fail to flag a dangerous condition, and that it is an informational second opinion only — not professional advice, not a safety certification, and not a reason to skip your own verification. Decisions you make based on a report, and their consequences, are yours.

5. Hardware Risk & Safety

INTERFACING WITH BATTERY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (BMS) INVOLVES SIGNIFICANT ELECTRICAL AND FIRE RISKS. INCORRECT SETTINGS OR COMMANDS SENT VIA THIS SOFTWARE COULD RESULT IN HARDWARE DAMAGE, FIRE, EXPLOSION, OR PERSONAL INJURY. THE USER ASSUMES ALL RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF THIS SOFTWARE.

Write mode (FET control) ships off by default and every command asks for confirmation. Those gates are conveniences, not guarantees: enabling write mode is your decision, and the results of any command you confirm are your responsibility.

6. No Warranty

BMS PAL IS PROVIDED “AS IS,” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY ARISING FROM THE USE OF THIS SOFTWARE.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE DEVELOPER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO PROPERTY DAMAGE OR BATTERY FAILURE, RESULTING FROM THE USE OF THE SOFTWARE.

8. Compatibility

IT IS THE USER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO VERIFY THE COMPATIBILITY OF THEIR SPECIFIC BMS HARDWARE. The supported-family list and the per-family coverage table on bmspal.app describe what the app has been tested against; hardware and firmware outside that list may not work, or may misreport.

9. Purchases, Trial, and Credits

BMS Pal is a free download with a 7-day trial; a one-time purchase unlocks it permanently. Sanity Checks run on credits (a starting allotment is included; additional credit packs are available as in-app purchases). All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store under Apple’s own terms; we never see your payment details. Credits have no cash value and are non-transferable.

10. Things You Send Us

If you send a problem report, device confirmation, or feedback, you give us permission to use that material to operate and improve BMS Pal — for example, to fix bugs, extend protocol support, and maintain the supported-device list. Do not send content you do not have the right to share. Please do not abuse the reporting service; we may decline or discard abusive submissions.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time; changes are reflected by the Effective Date at the top of this page. If a change is material, it lands here before it takes effect.

12. Contact

Questions about these terms: email hello@support.bmspal.app or use Settings → Support and Feedback in the app (reachable without a purchase).
